Plastic cups, paint chips, candy wrappers, bottle caps, newspaper, shower curtains, inner tubes… What do they have in common you ask? They were all destined for the dump and diverted; repurposed and upcycled into fantastic garments for FashionTeens – where the discarded becomes divine.

Each year FashionTeens brings teenagers from across Santa Cruz County together for a fabulous, fashion runway evening. Students source, create, construct, and showcase their own unique piece of fashion art. With a focus on the environment and the impact we have on it, most creations are made from recycled or repurposed items giving new value to what otherwise would end up in our landfill. By taking fashion into their own hands, students express their creativity, gain design and engineering skills, explore complex social issues, experience creative problem-solving, gain confidence and learn valuable life skills. After all their hard work, there is nothing more rewarding than the excited, beaming faces of these teenagers as they walk the runway in front of cheering crowds. We hope you will join us on Friday, April 19th for this year’s production of FashionTeens!

FashionTeens began at Mission Hills Middle School and now encompasses all of Santa Cruz County. Today, FashionTeens is a production of the Santa Cruz County Office of Education and with support from Arts Council Santa Cruz County.

To make all this happen we need your support. Your donation will dramatically help with production costs, outreach, and inclusion for as many students as possible. Please consider supporting this dynamic, impactful, and creative endeavor.  All donations are tax-deductible.

Thank you,
